011 Sweden (the best country in the world, or so I'm told)

After the walking, I stayed for a couple of days with Tryggve in Karlstad, generally recupperating from the walk, washing, eating, talking a lot. I also borrowed a bike for a day and cycled around town, which was great. Karlstad has as a nickname 'Sunny City', and this seems to be the correct name for it. It is not the most exciting city in the world, but has a nice relaxed athmosphere, and it is just big enough to be interesting.

After Karlstad I decided to go for a couple of days to Stockholm, and because I thought I should really try the hitchhiking again in Sweden (didn't work so well last time), I set myself at the entrance to the highway towards Stockholm. It took a while, but after a minute or 20 I was picked up by a Swede. He told me that he used to hitchhike as well when he was younger. He even travelled around the USA for 3 months. He dropped me of in a city about 60 km away, where I found my next driver within 5 minutes. He turned out to not speak any English. Later on I found out he was from Bosnia, woring in Oslo but living in Orebro in Sweden. He was just returning home for the weekend. He took me for a bout another 60 km, to the city where he lived. And then the most interesting thing happend. He took me to the center of Orebro, parked his car next to a coffee place, and said 'you drink coffee?'. I said I would, so we got out, and he introduced me to his friend. Then he turned around, and before I had the chance to thank him, he got in his car and drove away! The other guy spoke much better English, and perfect German as well. We talked about the city for an hour, whilst drinking coffee. He told me that his friend always picks up hitchhikers and brings them to him for coffee. Nice service. I guess I have to visit Bosnia some day as well.
After the coffee he took me to the highway again, so I could continue the hitchhiking.

Somehow the point where I was standing was not very good. There was simply not enough traffic. And it was raining. I relocated after about 45 minutes, walked a bit through town to another entrance to the highway, and tried again. After another 45 minutes, I got the same reslut, and I was getting cold because of all the rain. I decided it was enough for the day, so I walked back to the trainstation and took the train to Stockholm.

Mission to hitchhike to Stockholm from Karlstad: 50% complete.

Leuk om je verslagen te lezen. Keep it up! :) Vooral het stuk over de wolven was erg spannend.
